Kala lives in the land of Ashura, which is bathed in permanent daylight.  As a headstrong young girl in a village dominated by religious elders and superstition, Kala has never accepted her position in society.  She challenges social norms and tries to join the Emissaries of Dawn: a militaristic group bent on destroying the Dark Ones—monsters who live on the other side of Dawn, in a land of permanent night.  But when Kala ventures into the Dark, she is forced to confront her deepest nightmares.
